Kickstand as a Wi-Fi/LTE antenna (concept)

An idea, not a build: feed the metal kickstand as an antenna by winding an insulated wire around it — with the replies explaining why it would not work.

Details

StalkS floated wrapping heat-shrunk wire around the kickstand and bonding it with something non-conductive so the stand doubles as a Wi-Fi or LTE antenna when partly extended. Nobody built it: mikeschnier notes antennas need specific dimensions, and lis6502 works through λ = c/f (about 12.5 cm full-wave at 2.4 GHz) and points out that a random piece of metal next to the shell will interfere rather than help, suggesting a plastic stand instead. Kept as a recorded dead end — the spacer and external-antenna entries are the practical answers.
