Newer screen panels need a current kernel (Rex's images)
uConsoles shipped since 2025 carry a third panel revision (TXW500242B0) that older OS images cannot drive; Rex's kernel 6.12.67 images support all three.

trinity's hardware directory lists three 1280 × 720 panel revisions: the original TXW50017B0, TXW500170B0-FPC-01 with minor driver-initialisation differences, and TXW500242B0-FPC-00, fitted to units shipped since 2025 — a single resistor apart from the second in hardware, but needing kernel support. The directory mentions garbled LCD output on kernels without it.
Rex rebuilt Bookworm, Trixie, DragonOS, Kali, ParrotOS, RetroPie, TwisterOS and Ubuntu 24.04 on kernel 6.12.67 in February 2026 for the new panel; they still work on the older panels. If a fresh image shows nothing, check the panel before suspecting the ribbon — and on NVMe builds davefrommars found a config.txt pciex1 line was the real culprit.

Owners keep finding 5-inch 1200 × 1920 MIPI panels and OLEDs that would fit; nobody has one running, because the pinout and the driver both need work.

A simple clip-on cover that prints flat with no supports and keeps about 0.5 mm off the glass — for throwing the console in a bag.
