Higher-resolution, OLED or touch panel swap (concept)
Owners keep finding 5-inch 1200 × 1920 MIPI panels and OLEDs that would fit; nobody has one running, because the pinout and the driver both need work.
What it takes
- Purchase required
- Disassembly
- Soldering

notbdot found a 5-inch 1200 × 1920 MIPI panel (TXW500190B0) on Alibaba that would physically fit; NekoRouter's pinout comparison showed it would need a conversion board and Rex pointed out the driver and kernel work on top. buglamp's earlier hunt for a 65 × 120 mm OLED or capacitive panel and Yoobe's touch-panel sourcing (vendors will customise, at 100-piece minimums) went the same way — interest, no build. The thread also questions whether more pixels help on a 5-inch terminal at all.
A 2026 'next-gen baseboard with native MIPI DSI and AMOLED' proposal collapsed after vileer and Rex showed its AI-generated claims were wrong, which the author conceded; Rex's point stands that a new mainboard needs someone to maintain kernel support. For touch, timmotools' resistive overlay is the mod that actually works.
