Void Linux image for the CM4
Paige Thompson's musl-based Void build for the CM4: runit, BTRFS with zstd, a 6.12.y ClockworkPi kernel and an Ansible sideload — archived in 2026.
What it takes
- Software only
Difficulty 1 of 3 — easy.
Details
Built on GitHub Actions with cross-compilation and QEMU, the image (November 2024) is a barebones aarch64-musl Void base on a BTRFS root with zstd compression to spare the SD card, a kernel from Rex's rpi-6.12.y tree with CONFIG_HZ_1000 and NO_HZ_FULL, and user pi with no password. An optional Ansible playbook on a sideload partition installs the rest, including a Plasma Wayland desktop with working audio; systemd is unavailable on musl.
The repository (now under Ravenhammer-Research) was archived read-only on 28 February 2026, so the releases stay downloadable but nothing is maintained.
