CAD check by tiniuclx: three cells physically fit inside the standard case, but only 57.9 mm is free and every off-the-shelf 3-cell holder is about 61 mm wide.

Working from the case CAD, tiniuclx showed that a third 18650 fits within the stock outline, if snugly, and posted renderings of the arrangement. The obstacle is holders: commercial three-cell holders are about 61 mm wide against 57.9 mm available, so the practical route would be a hand-built pack with welded tabs. Rex pointed to lululvlv's forthcoming 3 × 18650 tray, announced on Reddit, as the commercial answer. No prototype was built, so this is a study, not a mod.
