DigitalDreams slid a silicone sleeve over the metal stand wire because the stand tends to lock too tightly on hard surfaces; it also comes in colours. Work it on slowly — finger grease helps it slide and a cloth helps grip — because the wire ends can tear the sleeve. The wire measures 2.5 mm with a micrometer; u0d7i found 3 mm cable spiral wrap from AliExpress does the same job. hotellonely notes it can clash with antenna mounts that clamp to the stand.
